On the morning of September 23rd, 2009 Sydneysiders woke to a spectacular orange glow as the largest dust storm in 70 years cloaked the city.

Though warned of the possibility of a the dust it seems everyone was caught out by it's intensity, beauty and "spookiness".

Health warnings were issued, the airport closed and harbour ferries cancelled. Thankfully no major road incidents were reported.more »

The sky had cleared by late afternoon as the dust moved north to Queensland and east to New Zealand.
